1. What Types of Fiber Optic Splitter Technologies Are Available?

Fiber optic splitters are mainly divided into three technology types: FBT splitters, PLC splitters, and micro-optic splitters. Among them, PLC splitters are the most widely used in modern FTTH and PON networks due to their stable optical performance, compact structure, and wide operating wavelength range.

Although both are used for optical signal splitting, PLC and FBT splitters have significant differences in technology and application scenarios.

PLC splitters operate across a full wavelength range of 1260–1650nm and provide uniform optical power distribution, making them ideal for large-scale FTTH and telecom deployments.

FBT splitters have a narrower operating bandwidth, but their advantage lies in flexible and unequal power splitting ratios such as 1:99 or 30:70. FBT-based splitters are also commonly referred to as optical couplers.
