What is the difference between an MPO Harness Cable, MPO Breakout Cable, and MPO Fanout Cable?
These three terms are closely related but have subtle differences:
- MPO Harness Cable: Usually refers to a cable with an MPO connector on one end and multiple connectors (LC, SC, etc.) on the other, used for connecting high-density backbone cabling to patch panels or equipment.
- MPO Breakout Cable: Similar to a harness cable, but the term often emphasizes splitting a high-count MPO trunk into individual fibers for direct connections.
- MPO Fanout Cable: Essentially the same concept as a breakout cable, with “fanout” describing the physical spread of multiple fibers from a single MPO connector.
